TiVo buying assets from bankrupt company

New Hampshire residents might be interested to learn that TiVo is set to purchase assets from an online startup company called Aereo. On March 13, TiVo announced that it had received approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan to buy Aereo's customer lists, trademarks, patents and hardware.

New findings about credit card agreements

New Hampshire residents may have heard about a study released by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on March 10. The federal agency claims that around 75 percent of all credit card users are unaware that they are bound to arbitration terms prohibiting them from suing the issuer individually or through a class action in the event of a dispute. In addition, many of those who are aware of those terms do not understand their effect.

When bankruptcy can be a good choice

New Hampshire consumers who are struggling with overwhelming debt are often hesitant to file for bankruptcy. While it is considered to be an acceptable option for businesses that need to reorganize debt, personal bankruptcy is both highly stigmatized and surrounded by myths. When a debtor is insolvent, bankruptcy is often a much better option in the long run than is struggling to pay debts through a debt management plan.

Qualifications for having tax debt discharged through bankruptcy

Individuals who are overwhelmed by financial obligations may be able to obtain a measure of relief by filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and getting some of their debts discharged. In some cases, past due income tax obligations may be discharged through bankruptcy as well. However, there are certain qualifications that they need to meet before this can occur.
