Ending toxic negativity during and after your divorce

Divorce has a negative connotation whenever it is brought up. The thought of divorce is often accompanied by shame, failure, depression, anger, bitterness and resentment. These are extremely powerful negative emotions to be carrying around inside of you. If you are going through a divorce, you know that it is not easy to disengage your mind, finances, living situation, and future from whom it was combined with.

Nevertheless, it is essential to your health and wellbeing when you can end a marriage on amicable terms. Your reaction to your present circumstances are a continual result of your perception. Negative self-talk and slander of your ex will keep you trapped in a toxic perception of your reality.

Letting go

Instead of participating in the internal and external negativity, make it a habit of letting go of this pattern. When you let go, you make room in your mind and life for things that serve your growth and healing. It starts by being conscious of your inner and outer dialogue. You may want to set boundaries with other people when it comes to discussing your divorce. Feel free to let out all your negativity in prayer or journal writing instead. It is highly beneficial to release those emotions to propel you towards a better future.

Forgiveness and compassion

Practicing forgiveness and compassion is just that, practice. You won't always feel like you are getting it "right", but it is important to not give up. Practice extending forgiveness and compassion on your ex and any family members that you feel wronged you in any way. Most of all, extend an abundance of love, forgiveness and compassion on yourself. Avoid the temptation to beat yourself up when you were doing the best you could during that point in time.

Divorce is not just a legal process with an indefinite end-date, but it is a mental and emotional process that some people never get over. You are the only who can spare yourself years and years of negative toxicity when it comes to your divorce. You can make the choice to shift your perception and choose gratitude for what you're thankful for and embrace the new and hopeful possibilities that await you.
