Many people expect marriage to be full of spousal support, financial ease and personal growth. Marriage doesn’t guarantee you’ll spend your entire life happy and comfortable. Some spouses find they have more difficulties after marriage than when they were single.
There are many causes for an unhappy marriage. Here are a few reasons people have marital issues:
1. There’s constant disagreement
Relationships often start out with a lot of strong communication, however, marriage may change that. Married couples often have to make more joint decisions, which can make or break a marriage if spouses can’t agree on anything.
2. Your spouse has debt
Some people marry with a lot of credit card or student loan debt, others build it up during the marriage. Debt can put a lot of financial strain on the marriage, especially when some couples aren’t aware of the debt.
3. There’s no more intimacy
Early on in relationships, couples often spend a lot of time together – when one couple enters a room the other is often not far. Marriage often relaxes some of this early intimacy, but drastic changes may cause rifts in a marriage.
4. Your parenting style doesn’t match
Every parent raises their child differently, but couples often have to find some agreement on raising their kid. Parents that have conflicting parenting styles may frequently fight, causing difficulty in a marriage.
5. Your spouse has addiction problems
When a spouse develops an addiction problem, it can disrupt a marriage. Addiction can eat away at a couple’s finances, cause emotional difficulties and eventually lead to health concerns – which, not every spouse wants to witness.
If your marriage is on the rocks, you may need to know what options you have for divorce.
